    Tallahassee’s Public High School Grades

    We often hear from buyers that they are concerned about schools. While there are a lot of limitations to assigning a single grade to a school with hundreds of students, teachers, and staff, many find grades useful. Please keep that in mind when reviewing the information provided. Below is the available information on Tallahassee’s public middle schools. Also, these reports include community reviews.

    Leon County has 49 public schools and over 32,000 students. With over 2,300 classroom teachers, 42% have a master’s degree or higher! The graduation rate is in the top five in Florida at 94.4%.

    If you are wondering what schools your location is zoned for, please check here. Leon County also has a school choice program for select families. Applications for school choice are submitted between January and March 1 each year. Check here for more information.

    Godby High School

    Located in western Tallahassee, Amos P. Godby High School is home to the Cougars! This public high school serves grades 9-12. The overall grade is a B-.

    Godby High School opened in August 1966. Current enrollment is around 1,426 students.

    Godby High School’s mission statement: “It is our mission to produce graduates who have the academic and technological skills necessary to think analytically and communicate clearly so they can be productive members of our global community.”

    Rickards High School

    Located in southern Tallahassee, James Rickards High School is home to the Raiders! This public high school serves grades 9-12. The overall grade is a B+.

    Rickards High School opened in August 1960. Current enrollment is around 1,596 students.

    Rickards High School’s mission statement: “The mission of James S. Rickards High School is to produce graduates with skills and competencies to succeed on local, state, national, and international levels and who are responsible, self-supporting, and productive members of our society.”

    Chiles High School

    Located in the northeast, Lawton Chiles High School is home to the Timberwolves! This public high school serves grades 9-12. The overall grade is an A.

    Lawton Chiles High School opened in August 1999 by welcoming 767 freshman and sophomore students from Leon County’s northeast region. The first senior class graduated in May of 2002. Current enrollment is around 2,000 students.

    Chiles High School’s mission statement is “building a tradition of excellence by providing an environment where students are challenged to be active learners, leaders, achievers, and contributors within a global community.” The school’s motto: “Cognosco; Duco; Perficio” is Latin for “I learn; I lead; I achieve.”

    Leon High School

    Located in the north, Leon High School is home to the Lions! This public high school serves grades 9-12. The overall grade is an A.

    Leon High School is Florida’s oldest continually accredited high school. It was founded in 1871! (That’s only twenty-six years after Florida became a state!) Five years later a two-story building was erected on the present site on Tennessee Street.  Current enrollment is around 2,057 students.

    Leon High School’s mission statement is “It is our goal that all students graduate from Leon High prepared to the best of their abilities to be creative problem solvers and adaptive to change in a globally competitive society.”

    Lincoln High School

    Located in the east, Lincoln High School is home to the Trojans! This public high school serves grades 9-12. The overall grade is an A.

    Lincoln High School’s academic program has been ranked in or near the top 100 public schools since 1998 by Newsweek Magazine. Over 70% of graduating classes attend a postsecondary institution, with 30% attending a four-year university.

    Leon High School’s vision statement is “The educational setting at Lincoln High School fosters flexible, comprehensive, and challenging academic and extra-curricular programs which maximize each student’s potential. Lincoln graduates will be productive, contributing members of society who have a strong sense of personal responsibility, a sense of national citizenship, a life-long love of learning, and a respect for the diverse contributions of all.”
