History of Indian Head – Lehigh
This story and neighborhood are cool. I understand why this neighborhood is popular with older folks. The first thing people usually notice is that the streets have unusual names. Founded in the 1950s, the founders worked with the state library to find Seminole names. ‘Nene’ means ‘trail’ in the Seminole’s language. There are over nine hundred homes in the neighborhood now. This is a friendly community, and a lot of activities take place in the heart of the community – Optimist Park. There is a monthly potluck and regular festivities – like Halloween parties and a 5K run for women. The parks have a gorgeous shady trail and lots of places for young ones to play.
Since the houses are older, many were built to be 900-1300 square feet. Many homes have converted garages and additions to make them more spacious and comfortable to how modern families live. The vegetation in this neighborhood is thick and mature. Some yards receive hardly any sun through the trees, and some have luscious market gardens. This is a tight-knit community!
