History of the Bloxham Heights Subdivision
This neighborhood is found south of FSU and west of FAMU in the southwest area of Tallahassee. There are a lot of students here, and only 4% are homeowners. It was not always like this. The City of Tallahassee approved the Bloxham Heights subdivision plat on December 11, 1928. Kate Stuckey then owned the property; therefore, nearby Stuckey Street is named for her. Many homes were built here in the 1940s and 1950s, and the neighborhood was filled with families with professional and skilled workers and craftsmen.
The name Bloxham came from Florida’s Governor William D Bloxham who was twice elected to govern Florida. Bloxham Heights was also called ‘Allen Hill’ in honor of the prominent family in the neighborhood. Today, most residents living in Tallahassee’s Bloxham Heights are in the consumer segment of Midtown Singles. The median age is 29.4 with an average monthly rent of $920. This is a young, diverse, and highly mobile population, who go dancing, play pool, and buy organic food.
