Tallahassee’s Public High School Grades

Everyone wants their child to attend quality schools. Tallahassee, in Leon County’s school district, has some highly rated public high schools. We have gathered the Florida Department of Education’s school grades (and other interesting facts) below.  However, there are a lot of limitations to assigning a single grade to an high school with hundreds of students, teachers, and staff. Please keep that in mind when reviewing the information provided below.

Below is the available information on each of Tallahassee’s high schools, including the school grades and charts from the Florida Department of Education. Leon County has 49 public schools and over 32,000 students. With over 2,300 classroom teachers, 42% have a master’s degree or higher! The graduation rate is in the top five in Florida at 94.4%. Amos P Godby High School

Tallahassee’s Godby High School is a public school that serves grades ninth through twelve grade. Current enrollment is around 1,423 students, and there are 67 teachers. Of course, you can find this school in Tallahassee’s 32303 zip code.

Godby High School opened in August 1966.

Godby High School’s mission statement: “It is our mission to produce graduates who have the academic and technological skills necessary to think analytically and communicate clearly so they can be productive members of our global community.”

Their overall grade is a unrecorded at this time. Their last recorded grade was a B-.

James Rickards High School

Located in southern Tallahassee, Tallahassee’s James Rickards High School is home to the Raiders! Rickards High School is a public school that serves grades ninth through twelve grade. Of course, you can find this school in Tallahassee’s 32301 zip code.

Rickards High School opened in August 1960. Current enrollment is around 1,587 students.

Rickards High School’s mission statement: “The mission of James S. Rickards High School is to produce graduates with skills and competencies to succeed on local, state, national, and international levels and who are responsible, self-supporting, and productive members of our society.”

Their overall grade is a unrecorded at this time. Their last recorded grade was a B.

Lawton Chiles High School

Located in northeastern Tallahassee, Lawton Chiles High School is home to the Timberwolves! Chiles High School is a public school that serves grades ninth through twelve grade. Of course, you can find this school in Tallahassee’s 32312 zip code.

Lawton Chiles High School opened in August 1999 by welcoming 767 freshman and sophomore students from Leon County’s northeast region. The first senior class graduated in May of 2002. Current enrollment is 2,021 students. Chiles also has 82 teachers.

Chiles High School’s mission statement is “building a tradition of excellence by providing an environment where students are challenged to be active learners, leaders, achievers, and contributors within a global community.” The school’s motto: “Cognosco; Duco; Perficio” is Latin for “I learn; I lead; I achieve.”

Their overall grade is an A.

Leon High School

Located near the Capitol in downtown Tallahassee, Leon High School is home to the Lions! Leon High School is a public school that serves grades ninth through twelve grade. Of course, you can find this school in Tallahassee’s 32308 zip code.

Leon High School is Florida’s oldest continually accredited high school. It was founded in 1871! (That’s only twenty-six years after Florida became a state!) Five years later a two-story building was erected on the present site on Tennessee Street.  Current enrollment is around 2,000 students.

Leon High School’s mission statement is “It is our goal that all students graduate from Leon High prepared to the best of their abilities to be creative problem solvers and adaptive to change in a globally competitive society.”

Their overall grade is an not recorded at this time. Their last recorded grade was an A.

Lincoln High School

Located in eastern Tallahassee, Lincoln High School is home to the Trojans! Lincoln High School is a public school that serves grades ninth through twelve grade. Of course, you can find this school in Tallahassee’s 32311 zip code.

Lincoln High School’s academic program has been ranked in or near the top 100 public schools since 1998 by Newsweek Magazine. Over 70% of graduating classes attend a postsecondary institution, with 30% attending a four-year university.

Lincoln High School’s vision statement is “The educational setting at Lincoln High School fosters flexible, comprehensive, and challenging academic and extra-curricular programs which maximize each student’s potential. Lincoln graduates will be productive, contributing members of society who have a strong sense of personal responsibility, a sense of national citizenship, a life-long love of learning, and a respect for the diverse contributions of all.”
